Let It Bee: HSGC Creates Honeybee Colonies

Hobe Sound Golf Club is in the process of creating honeybee colonies at the course.

As part of our stewardship of the environment at the Club, this project ties in with our work to achieve certification with Audubon International. It will also provide us with our own “brand” of honey, to be used in Chef David’s kitchen, as well as offered for sale to our members and guests.

Sierra Malnove of Sierra’s Bees in Palm Beach Gardens is working with our Golf Course Superintendent Clinton Tingen and First Assistant Tony Price to create and maintain the colonies.

“We brought in your bees on Feb. 22," says Sierra. "The first honey flow should start mid to late March. I fully expect to have three honey harvests for you this year.”

We have four hive boxes containing approximately 80,000 bees total. The boxes are located in the upland area to the right of the tee complex on hole number 1.

Sierra adds, “I currently have 15 other clubs as well as a handful of private clients. The number one goal of the program is to keep everyone safe and give everyone a positive experience with bees. I’m very excited to work with Hobe Sound Golf Club on your honey bee program.”
